As you could probably tell by the amount of paint that has come home on your children's clothes and hands, we have been pretty busy!(sorry!?!)
Some of the children have been creating "projects" out of recycled materials! Using creative thinking and problem solving skills, children are able to transform old paper towel rolls, small boxes and other found objects into art. This is a higher order thinking activity that invites the child to create something abstract from a concrete object. This process is important as they try different solutions to solve a problem; for example they figured out that when they glue items to a box, the items slide down. So with this, we discuss liquid glue drying into a solid as well as gravity pulling objects down. They are experimenting a lot with masking take and figuring out how to place each strip in a good position (don't forget about the fine motor skills they are using to rip or cut the tape) PARENTS PLEASE DONATE MORE MASKING TAPE!!! Thanks!
We also worked our small hand muscles using a clothespin to pick up pompoms and placing them in a pattern on our "ten frames" In the art area, we used paint and bubble wrap to print on paper, we decorated Indian vests with symbols.
We continued listening to stories about animals, and where they live. We discussed what pets needs are... if you have a pet at home please take a quick photo and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org, after Thanksgiving I will share with the class.
With the rainy weather, we had the chance to work our hand eye coordination inside. The children threw and learned how to catch scarves and fluffy balls.
Next week, we will continue reading stories about Thanksgiving as we prepare to welcome you into our class. Please take a moment to click on the Thanksgiving link on our webpage and leave a comment to say how many guests you will bring and what dish you are able to share with the group. You may chose to bring a dish representative of your country or make it traditional. Finger foods are always a great idea, also you can sign up to bring soda or desserts.
Again thank you for your continued support!
