8 days down, 177 days to go! In our classroom, the first days are filled with building our sense of community and belonging. We introduce expectations and goals. We meet the new teaching team and work around our individual strenghts and areas of expertise. Besides all of the above mentioned, we also begin to do informal and initial assessments. In this assessments I look for my lefties, any signs of speech issues or delays, preferred activity choices, language preference, different types of personalities, and individual interests of each student.
Other areas I initiate assessment with my students are pencil/writing tool grasp and name identification. These activities were targeting these two goals for this past week.
