Hello Parents,Week 24 Feb 13-17​
Last week We:
  • Valentine's Day at school was a hit from the pirate/prince and princess dress ups to the dance!
  • Had so much fun passing out our Valentines in the mailboxes we created. They were hard work and our little fingers got much needed exercise, ripping paper, gluing, brushing, peeling and sticking! 
  • Mrs. Sonia and I want to thank you parents again for the thoughtful gifts we received on that special day. We felt the love!
  • We covered the letter Oo and Pp last week. The children are really catching on to their letters and sounds. 
  • I have introduced the sight words: The, I, see and can for children to start noticing them in print. When you see those words in your books at home point one out and see if your child can find the next one as you read together.

Next Week:
  • We will introduce the new theme : Growing Up Healthy.
  • Children will learn about nutritious eating, exercise, and other positive ways of taking care of themselves. 
  • We will also learn what to do in case of an emergency and how to call 911. 
  • Health and safety begin in the home, so please help your child by supporting what our class will be learning. 
  • Make and discuss healthy food choices during mealtime and when shopping for groceries or eating away from home. 
  • Cook with your child to teach him/her about the ingredients in foods.
  • Review family safety procedures, especially what to do in case of a fire and how to exit the home. 
  • Teach child-appropriate safety guidelines to use at home, such as never turning on the stove or lighting a match. 
  • Help your child memorize his or her home address and phone number. 
    • Children must develop self-awareness at a young age in order to be healthy for life. 
    • It is one of our year-long goals, but will be a special focus during this theme. 
    • Help your child develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime!
  • Literacy Tip: Teach your child how to read exit and other emergency signs and symbols.
  • We will introduce the letter Qq and it's sound


Looking ahead:
Book fair will be at our PLC and Main Campus Feb 24th to March 3rd
March 1st @5 pm/Main Campus will be having the annual Seuss Carnival with lots of fun and games; Dunk Tank included!! Come join us and don't forget to take a look at the Book Fair in the Media Center.

​Short Week... Review past concepts

Week 26/ Feb 27-March 3rd​
Last week was absolutely Seuss-tastical!
  • I know a few of you were able to attend the Dr.Seuss Carnival! Unfortunately I was not able to attend. 
    • Thank you for supporting our school and for the wonderful class book donations!
  • Kids enjoyed cooking this week from making a brand new batch of play-dough, to jello and green eggs and ham! 
    • We talked about following recipes, measuring, and watched textures change through the process.
  • We discussed the 5 senses and how they help us statyaware of everything around us.
Next Week we will 
  • Continue discussing our 5 senses. 
  • We will talk about taking care of our bodies. What to do to get rid of germs, eating healthy foods, visiting the doctor and first aid.
  • We will review the letters P,Q and introduce R 
    • (they seem to enjoy the videos on youtube from Bounce Patrol who sing an dance to each letter! Look it up!) 
  • We will explore capacity in the science area.. which container hold more?

Hello Parents!


It’s been busy these last two weeks!

  • We wrapped up our Awesome Animals Theme... But we will continue talking about cool animals that the children have shown interest in. 
  • If you have pets, talk to your child about how you care for your pet. 
  • We talked about Insects and bugs and how animals grow and change.

  • Don’t forget to send us pictures of your pets on the Remind app or Shutterfly website so we can share with the class. 
  • It’s a great opportunity to expand on their vocabulary.
  • We reviewed letters from A-L
  • We talked about winter and ice and got to play with ice cubes. 
    • We made an experiment by pouring salt on a block of ice to watch the texture change.
  • We continued to practice identifying beginning sounds
  • We extended separating words from their beginning sounds. 
    • At home take everyday words and practice with your child. 
    • For example: say "Car starts with the /k/ sound, what letter makes that sound?" : /C/ !
    • You can always ask your child "what do you get when you put /k/ andare together?" : car

This week:

  • We are learning about the letter M and its sound.
  • Wednesday February 7th is our career day. Make sure you ask your child what they saw after school tomorrow.
  • We will be using our imagination to build things! Please send us empty shoe boxes, Caprisun juice or cereal boxes. 
    • (we will be using them to decorate our Valentines treat mailboxes next week!)
    • feel free to send any valentine stickers and decorations to help cover the boxes. 
  • We will focus on counting and counting concepts.
  • We will use shapes to make new drawings using our imagination.

 
 
Looking Ahead:
Monday Feb 12th is our 100th Day of school... Start looking for ideas to dress your child as a centennial

Feb 14th Friendship Dance
  • We are asking parents to please donate snack items so that we can do our special 100th day trail mix... 
  • Please let me know if you can provide one of the following: 
    • 1 box of fruit loops
    • 1 bag of small pretzels
    • 1 or 2 boxes of teddy bear grahams/ honey or chocolate of both!
    • 1 box of fruit gummies
    • 1 pack of raisins 
    • 1 box of Chex cereal
    • 1 large bag of m&ms
    • 1 bag of chocolate chip morsels (like Hershey)
    • 1 box of Cheerios
    • 1 bag of popped corn already popped (they sell a big bag at Publix)
    • Please check your folders for details about friendship dance.
  • Don't forget to send in your school surveys (yellow envelope) if you still have them.
Please send back attendance signed with blue ink.
Make a note of any discrepancies for our records, but keep in mind that this attendance document is to keep a count of days absent/present, not excused or unexcused.

Tuesday will be out friendship dance, if you paid for your child to attend, they can bring cash to purchase snacks at the dance. 
If you would like to send in treats or cards for your child to pass to their friends on Wednesday {Valentine's day}, we have 20 students.

Week 24 Feb 12-16

Hello Parents!

Last Week:
  • We had a blast celebrating the 100th day of school from dressing up, making a special snack and exercising 100 different ways. 
  • We learned about the letter Nn and it's sound
  • We discussed patterns and how to extend them with shapes, colors and even sound and movement.
  • We continued exploring rhyming words
  • We used creativity to finish our Valentine Mailboxes. 
    • Had so much fun passing out our Valentines in the mailboxes we created. They were hard work and our little fingers got much needed exercise, ripping paper, gluing, brushing, peeling and sticking! They were very proud of their work!
  • Mrs. Sonia and I want to thank you parents again for the thoughtful gifts we received on that special day. We felt the love!
  • We learned about artists like Monet, Gauguin and Pollock
  • I found a fun website for creating our own Pollock art : 
    • Try it on your computer http://www.jacksonpollock.org/  (just keep clicking and moving your mouse on the screen to create a beautiful masterpiece.)


Next Week:
  • We will introduce the letter Oo
  • The children are really catching on to their letters and sounds. 
  • We want to encourage them to start writing words when they draw pictures. It would be great if you also do this at home when they draw casually.

  • We will introduce a few sight words to the children in the next few weeks: The, I, you, see and can for children to start noticing them in print. When you see those words in the books you read your children at home,  point them out and see if your child can find the next one as you read together.

  • Schedule a conference with me soon if you have not done so. I am available most days after dismissal 2-3 pm, our meetings should not take more than 30 minutes. ;)

Week 25- Feb 20-23rd


Hello Prek Families!

Last Week:
We covered the letter Oo and Pp  
The children had a blast celebrating the letter Pp on Friday! 
Our Pirates and Princesses had a blast building a Pirate ship, making maps and hiding the treasures while the princesses organized a tea party. Pictures will be uploaded later today on shutterfly. 
We read different versions of the folk tale "3 Little pigs and the Big Bad Wolf"
The kids used their imagination to build their rendition of the pig's houses. That was a great STEAM focused activity.



Next Week:
We will introduce the new theme : Growing Up Healthy.

If interested, you may send money for your child to purchase books of their choice. They usually range $3-10 in price. 
Or you can always order books through our class Scholastic account  and our class gets points!
March 7th /Main Campus will be having the annual Seuss Carnival with lots of fun and games; 
Dunk Tank included!! 
Come join us and don't forget to take a look at the Book Fair in the Media Center.

Hello Parents!Week 26/ Feb 26-March 2nd​

Next Week 
We will continue talking about healthy habits, taking care of our bodies and discussing our 5 senses.
We will be celebrating Seuss Week by reading some of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories and following our activity calendar:
Monday march 5th: I can Read with My Eyes Shut day! - Wear a shirt that others can read
Tuesday March 6th: Pre-K will make Green Eggs and Ham (let me know if you can contribute eggs: we'll need about 2 dozens, a small pack of sliced ham and saltine crackers or bread) ***Also please let me know if your child has any known sensitivity/allergy to eggs!!!
Wednesday March 7th: Dr Seuss Carnival Day - Wear your favorite Dr. Seuss Shirt
Thursday March 8th: If I ran the Zoo! - Wear a shirt with animal Print
Friday March 9th: Oh, The Places You'll Go Day - Wear a shirt from a place you've been or one you would like to visit.

If you have any Dr. Seuss books at home, your child may bring them to school this week to share and look at during rest time. (make sure they are labeled with their name)

Reminders:

Wednesday is Seuss Carnival at the main campus, don't forget to visit the book fair!
