Week of August 21st -25th, 2017
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
We are looking forward to a terrific school year, filled with excitement, as your child grows and learns. We want to thank you for taking time to come to our brief Meet and Greet so that we could meet you and your child. It was great!
I also want to thank you for bringing the wonderful supplies we will use this year. They sure come in handy. If I have not met you yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Alexandra DeLeon and I am your child's teacher in Pre-K. We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Sonia as our paraprofessional; she will be with us every day during our educational journey.
This e-newsletter will be sent occasionally to inform you of what is taking place in our classroom as well as planned future activities or events. Please be sure to read it in order to support your child's learning. This information can also be found online on our classroom website at http://cmeveprek.weebly.com/ under Weekly Newsletters.
This week we discussed the classroom rules:
Rule #1. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
Rule #2. Listen to the teachers/follow directions.
Rule #3. We're all friends in Pre-K.
Please remember that one way to teach the children the value and respect for education is to follow the school rules on a daily basis. In advance we thank you for your cooperation in this regard.
We started learning the different areas within the class : Block and Building center, Dramatic Play Center, Technology Center, Creativity Center, Reading and Listening Center and the Math and Science Center. We will go over how to work in each area. The children will plan which area they will work at and proceed to work. If they want to change areas, they must put away the materials they were working with and request to change areas. When work time is over, a song will be used to indicate that it is time to clean up. They have already taken a liking to the famous clean up robot song! All of the children will be involved in the cleaning-up process.
We will be reading and discussing many new stories. We read about David (author David Shannon) and all the things he did wrong at home and in school They loooved David!. We don’t want to be like David now, do we?
We also discussed using the bathroom independently (children are free to go as needed throughout the day)
We also talked about germs and the importance of washing hands before eating, after sneezing, coughing and also after playing outside and using the restroom. Ask them to tell you what happened after I sneezed in my hands! Oh my! Those magical glitter germs!
Please have your child bring her/his backpack on a daily basis so that they can take home any relevant paperwork in their folder.
Please feel free to contact me via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns or we can set up a conference to discuss such matters.
Even though sometimes we see each other at the beginning of school or at dismissal, these times are not appropriate to discuss your child's progress or any concerns you may have.
In order to protect your child's privacy and address any relevant issue you may want to set up a conference.
To ensure I have the correct address for everyone. Please reply with your 'child's name+mom/dad' and 'Got it' in the subject line so I can save the addresses accordingly.
*** Subject: Josh Johnson's mom got it****
If you would rather not receive any updates by email, or have a preferred alternate email please let me know.
I also use the app Remind to send quick reminders. If you have not signed up for that, I highly recommend it. This is a one way communication tool I have used and I love it. It allows me to send reminders to your email or phone for last minute changes.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
May your week be filled with happiness.
